Feeling spammed Onecard

Thanks one card. I am feeling thoroughly spammed.

So I understand that I signed up for this. I supplied my email address, but this is getting a little ridiculous.

Here are my emails from OneCard over the period of one month:

19 emails. 19. Are you kidding me?

So, part of this is my fault because I mistakenly said that I was close to a Foodtown and a Countdown but my goodness, that is a lot of, for all intents and purposes, spam.

Also, the part of this that makes me most annoyed is how they sent me an email asking for feedback, which I tried to give (I told them they were emailing me too much) and got this error message:
Oh dear. For goodness sake, make sure things work before you send them out to your database! Then I got even MORE emails telling me that the feedback thing didn't work. Fair to say I didn't bother to submit my feedback again. This is my feedback. Don't send me so damn many emails.

Email FAIL

Hi Frontier Touring Co.

I can't read this email. No. What should I do? You want me click here to view the email properly? OK. Will do.
Hmm. Not quite.
This is such a shame, Frontier Touring usually do their email shots so very well. Someone didn't have their ducks in a line for this one.

Check & check again people!

Wonky ad = visually horrible

Email came through today from StopPress. I really like StopPress, they have some good info, the email only comes out once a week, its all good. Until something visual ruins it like it did today.

Oh no!

Take a look. Does something not seem right about about the banner above the masthead? Because of how the Splore ad has been designed it completely screws with the visual effect. That nasty diagonal line makes it look like the banner drops to the right. I got out a ruler, it is a straight as a... ruler, but visually it is just so messy. In turn, it makes the masthead look messy and ruins the whole visual appeal of the email shot.
This might not be a big deal to everyone, as I know that I am very aware of aesthetics, but it really ruined the whole email for me.

The other part that gets me on this is that Splore will be AMAZING (kinda gutted I'm not going) so it is disappointing that whoever has been designing for them wasn't aware of how their design would translate.

Watch those angles kids - give me something that looks beautiful (or at least functional) and I will click on it.

K I S S

Something my mother drilled into me at quite a young age was KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. As with all good motherly advice, she has been right about this, time and again, in a manner of different situations I have found myself in. What I really like it that others obviously follow the same mantra.

This is the best email I have received so far this year. Granted it is only the 6th but others have included pre-sales for Gin Wigmore - it would seem as though Ticket Master really has NO idea about my musical preferences. Anyway...

This email came through from Stable. No subject. Nothing too much to read, just:
You can pretty much guarantee I will go.

Actually, Stable are also very high in my opinion due to one of the lovely ladies there, Sophie, is just one of the nicest and most helpful sales assistants that I have dealt with in a long time. Maybe she is the manager? Anyway, I bought a pair of sunnies (which my flatmate promptly fell in love with and bought herself a pair also) which unfortunately cracked about a month after I bought them. I took them back and as they didn't want to glue the crack in the fear it would ruin them, they gave me a store credit. After quite some time (been very busy) I went in and purchased a garment (yes, spent more money, but Cybele is always worth it) where not only did Sophie recognise me but she even gave me the glasses back if I wanted to try to fix them myself. So lovely.

What's my point? I guess it is refreshing to see someone who actually tries to sell the inventory they have. She put me in some jeans and another top, and while I didn't purchase, I did appreciate the attention and effort. Having bitched previously about the lost art of selling, it's not that it is lost, it's just still working in retail.

Sucker for good, smart advertising

You would think, that working in the industry I would be slightly less effected by such marketing ploys, however when you combine two of my favourite things, wine and Karen Walker. I will fall at your feet oh wise Marketing Manager/Agency.

A little over a week ago I was sent an email via the Karen Walker mailing list telling me about this promotion:Of course you have to spend some coin to be able to enter, but I checked it out nonetheless:Flights to Auckland, accommodation, limo transfers and $2k to spend at Karen Walker. Really. Where do I sign up?

So, on Saturday I was in the supermarket looking for a nice Pinot to drink tonight and what do I spot but the word Rosemount. A little more than I would normally spend on a bottle of wine, but I thought, why not? I can enter the competition and you never know, I might like it!

There was no instore promotion of the competition other than the neck tag on the bottle, and how the bottles were displayed at New World, you couldn't see them anyway. It was from that one email communication that the word Rosemount stuck in my head. It just shows how making a message as relevant as possible to your audience will help you gain traction.

Very nice. I hope I win!

New TVCs

Gosh, I have been terribly slack. Take 1 day off and pay for it for the next 3!

Not to worry, at least I am not going to be hitting up online advertising today. Today, I am talking TVCs.

So, Sunday is one of my favourite days of the week as I get to channel surf to find ad breaks. Yes, I am well aware that this is both sad and pathetic and makes me a complete geek, but I'm comfortable with that.

So, the commercial that caught my eye this Sunday just been, that would have to be the Max commercial. Now, I am 100% their target audience and I do buy a good deal of my work clothes from Max, so I would have hoped that the ad would grab me. It did not. In fact, the reason that it had me so transfixed was because I could not for the life of me work out what it was advertising. Seriously, click on that link above. You barely even see the clothes. Isn't that what they are trying to sell?

What Max do very well is their email shots, perfect for me:
Show me the clothes, make me want them. I do realise that due to the turnover in stock that Max has, the clothes that they show in the TVC are possibly not going to be available in another few months time, but even so, its an ad about clothes. Show the clothes! Sell the product. I would imagine that the purpose of the TVC is to get women into the store, they're not going to go in just because of a logo, they may if they see something they like in said ad however.

As a complete aside - I think the ad is super creepy.
